Job OverviewnnnThe NIF Estimator interfaces with external customers to prepare project proposals for new work.
The NIF Estimator also coordinates with, and advises, NIF Officers to set appropriate budgets/margins, maximize project profitability and establish a basis for job costing analysis.
Duties also include networking, customer cultivation, proposal follow-up and industry group participation.
nnnResponsibilities and DutiesnnnInternal Customersnnnn Estimating -- Material Takeoff and Labor Estimatesnn Develop complete and accurate project scopesnn Propose / exploit novel and creative solutions with feedback from Operationsnn Transparent and comprehensible estimate recordsnn Initiate work activity categoriesnn Segregate/denote labor into categoriesnn Suggest project phasing categoriesnnnnn Confirm material utilization with linear &a; 2D nesting, as time allowsnnnnn Estimating Associate Oversightnn Involve and oversee Estimating Associates and informal helpers (trades people)nn Oversee Estimating Associates timelinessnn Solicit and comprehend labor estimates from Operations personnelnnnnn Project Costingnn Initiate the Cost Centers sheet for ongoing job costing 1 nn Initiate and document time studies of specific and general activitiesnn Statistical / data based analysis of project costsnnnnnnnExternal Customersnnnn Technical Document Interpretationnn Design Drawing Understandingnn Navigate and interpret project plans, elevations and detailsnn Attention to General Notes and drawing annotationsnnnnn Specification Reviewnn Familiar with MasterFormat sections (Div5, Div9, Div10 etc)nnnnnnnnnnn Proposal Writingnn Manage customer pricing expectations and timelinesnn Communicate a complete and accurate scopenn Communicate all excluded scope items, implicit or explicit, to the customernn Develop/use diagrams, sketches and narratives as appropriatennnnn Verify proposed scope conformance with project specificationsnn Qualify or exclude all nonconformities being proposednn Identify all specifications requirements that conflict with customer&s;s requestnnnnnnnnnnn Marketingnn Develop new markets including new DOT customers and local contractorsnn Illuminate advantages NIF provides to the customernn Follow up on proposals, as appropriatenn Network and cultivate long-term relationships with current and potential clientsnnnnnnnSecondary Dutiesnnnn Assist PMs with limited/specific tasksnn Special procurement tasksnn Shipping coordinationnn PO writing 2 nn Other tasks, as requirednnnnn Shop drawing detail checkingnn Technical community outreachnn Trade organizationsnn Technical school job fairs / recruitingnnnnnnn nnn 1 Cost Centers sheets must be validated by supervisor prior to publishing for pre-bid and post-award use.
